Happy Halloween
I have to say, despite having brought up four children we are not really a Halloween celebrating family. However, up here in Scotland Halloween seems to be quite a big thing, and although I keep sweets in the house on the occasion just in case we get “threatened” with a “trick” it seems our little lane in the dark is a bit too scary for most kids, strangely.
Anyway, our youngest (16) announced this year that he would like to host a Halloween Party (any excuse!), and knowing most of his friends from previous parties (we are kind of Party Central for the local High School’s after show parties – the shows are a big thing in our town and draw large audiences) we had no problems agreeing. What a cowboy outfit has to do with Halloween I’ll never understand but I suppose it’s an excuse to scour Vinted and the local charity shops and dress up…Yeehaw!
Always on the lookout for a sewing project I suggested we make some bunting, and whilst I did all the sewing, my son helped with the cutting out and choosing the fabrics. Of course there had to be some dragons in there too, and it has turned out to be a slightly unconventional bunting, three sets of it that is. I always use sew-in interfacing for bunting (such as Vlieseline M12). Our Happy Birthday bunting which I made about 20 (?) years ago using this method is still going strong, some true “heirloom bunting” there, not sure mind what I’ll do with the Halloween bunting, I suppose we will just have to have more parties…😅
I made a template that makes fairly large flags so I could take best advantage of a 25cm cut of fabric (and fill a big room more easily). I have put the template up on the website, along with instructions if anyone is interested (does anybody actually need instructions for bunting? – but here we are). There is also now a small Halloween section on the website which lists purple, orange, glow in the dark and potentially spooky fabrics.
Happy Stitching!
