A Quarter for a Quarter Charity Fabrics
A listing with a difference has just been added to our website. We are selling these fabrics on behalf of our local Duns and District U3A Quilting Group, to which Blyth & Bonnie had donated fabrics in the past.
These fabric bolts were donated to the group, however, they decided that the fabrics are not suitable for the children’s quilts they make. So, we came up with the idea that for every piece of fabric sold here, the group gets to choose a free piece from our shop instead – a quarter for a quarter! Also, if you go for the full fat quarter set Blyth and Bonnie will include a special discount code in your package to use on your next order – and everyone benefits! ☺️
The fabrics are Moda (4) and Makower (1) which makes £2.99 for a (fat) quarter incredible value! The fat quarter pack is even better value!
D&D U3A Quilting Group are a very informal group which has been going for 8 years. Members make quilts entirely with donated fabrics and all members last year made at least one quilt to donate to Comfort Quilts that gives a child in need, within the Scottish Borders, something to cuddle.
They meet during the winter months, usually October to March, as most of them have gardens to attend to in the spring and summer. “It is an absolute joy for me to see complete beginners learn new skills and find the love of making quilts. One of our group now also makes the most amazing bags” says Liz Casey, the group leader, who describes herself as a “keen but not expert quilter” – which probably describes a lot of quilters (including myself).
The group made and donated a total of 15 quilts last year. The quilts are given to children using hospital services and to Social Services for those in need. Each quilt takes 2 to 4 metres of cotton based fabric so they use quite a lot. The feedback from the local Coordinater is amazing. Both Children’s Social Services and the Children’s services in our local NHS hospital Borders General are very grateful.
So if you would like to help this worthwile cause, just buy some of this fabric! Thank you.
