Welcome!

Click on the photos for more details or use the menu above to navigate. Read on below to find out more about us and what we do.

We are an online shop only, but are open by appointment if you would like to see what’s on offer. Please make your appointment at least one day in advance, as the room is also used for other purposes and may not be accessible. The best way to contact us is to ring or text 0776 6600822. Also, if you could let us know what you are interested in we can make sure it is available to view, as some bolts of fabric, for example, may be in current use in our workroom. We can supply tea, speciality coffee and cake (Kathi used to bake for a local cafe and makes great cakes!) whilst you browse materials in our dining room-cum-workshop space, for a donation to charity. For updates on regular open days follow us on Facebook.

We sell quality craft cotton fabrics, suitable for patchwork, dressmaking and other craft projects. We try to source environmentally friendly materials whenever possible, so you will find a lot of Oeko-Tex® certified (Standard 100) and organic fabrics in our shop. There are also a number of specialist fabrics such as our popular 350gsm heavy cotton canvas (great for bags) and we have a range of flannels and jersey fabrics, as well as laminated fabrics which we use for making our own products. We use and test everything so you can be sure that what you make with our fabrics is durable and your efforts are not wasted through the use of poor quality fabrics.

Our sandwich wrap in action – not just for sandwiches!

As well as selling fabrics we sell many handmade gifts which are aimed at reducing waste and helping you safe on fuel bills. Currently we make reusable sandwich wraps in more than 100 different designs. Other zero waste items for the home include our versatile bamboo wipes, reusable gift bags and reusable bowl covers. Our cotton flannel infinity scarves will help you keep warm at a time when we are all turning the heating down, and our clothes peg aprons will make hanging out the washing so much fun you won’t want to use the tumble dryer! I started making reusable shopping bags in the 1980s, before it became a thing in this country, when I was just tall enough to sit up at a sewing machine, and if you can’t see a design you like, just get in touch, we can probably make it.

A note on face masks: All our face masks are washable and in the fitted style, as we believe this gives the best protection by eliminating gaps. Made from good quality tightly woven 100% cotton outer and lining, with a synthetic, non-woven interlining. All our masks have a sturdy adjustable nose wire, overhead elastic to go around the head and a toggle to create a snug fit around the edges (we can also supply soft ear loop elastic and soft nose wires if preferred, please let us know). Overhead elastic is often preferred by people wearing hearing aids or glasses. As well as using Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified cotton in a lot of our masks we are starting to use more certified organic cotton now. Our masks are extremely durable, so much so it proved quite a time-consuming task taking some masks apart recently which the children had outgrown. We are planning to make a patchwork quilt out of the pieces and the off-cuts will get used to stuff draft excluders.

If you can’t decide on what size or style to buy, read this post about sizing.

Whilst our standard (medium) adult sized face mask fits most people, our large reversible face mask which you see in the video is a good fit for people with longer chins or beards (please enquire about extra large masks). The medium reversible masks are available in a standard shape as well as a roomier version, making them more suitable for larger noses!

Either choose from the designs listed here or choose a couple of fabrics from our range, add your face mask choosing the number of layers (4 layers are recommended) here to your basket, and leave a comment about your choice of fabric(s) in the comments box at checkout. Will be made up within 24-48 hours of your order. You can even send us your own fabric, but check with us about the suitability of the material first!

All our masks are made to a high standard by a small team in the Scottish Borders. Our first priority is that you have a mask which is a good fit for you and we will try and help you choose the right style and size. Please get in touch. Also, if the mask you ordered does not work for you, do get in touch. Often there is a simple solution to your issue and we have yet to come across a problem which we have been unable to solve!

You can find out more about the face masks in one of our latest posts.
